Geisinger Health Data Breach – Class Action Investigation

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a class action lawsuit against Pennsylvania-based healthcare provider Geisinger Health relating to a data breach it suffered that exposed the sensitive information of more than 1.2 million patients. The Geisinger Health breach is part of the larger data breach incident involving Nuance Communications, a third-party vendor that provides information technology services to Geisinger.

According to reports, the information impacted by the breach varied by patient but could have included names in combination with one or more of the following: date of birth, address, admit and discharge or transfer code, medical record number, race, gender, phone number and facility name abbreviation. Nuance is reportedly providing notice to Geisinger customers who were impacted by the data breach.

Geisinger’s failure to protect sensitive personal and health information may violate consumer protection and data privacy laws.
